Speech Therapy in Japan

Course Description: This course will discuss the feeding research conducted by Rachel, Hazel, and Heather at ShisaCare Clinic. Recognizing the link between anxiety and eating aversion has presented significant challenges for parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, potentially leading to limitations in dietary choices and nutritional deficiencies. To address these challenges, ShisaCare’s feeding program has employed various practices aimed at reducing anxiety during trials, including but not limited to: Flexibility in treatment settings (virtual and/or in-person). Family involvement (presence at all sessions). Client engagement (food preparation). Use of the Yum Score Rating Sheet.

Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Recognize factors that impact subjects’ willingness to try new foods. 

2. Identify appropriate clients for the use of the Yum Score Rating Sheet. 

3. List methods that improve trials of non-preferred foods and textures.
